Who Takes Care of Kids in the Pediatric Unit?

A specialized healthcare team cares for children in the pediatric unit. The physicians and support staff who care for your child will be matched to your child's needs.

Many children will be cared for by a pediatric hospitalist. A pediatric hospitalist is a pediatrician who works primarily in the hospital. A pediatric hospitalist will work with your child's pediatrician and other specialists, and serve as a link with the child, family, and primary care physician to attain the best outcome for your child. A child who is admitted for surgery may be cared for by a surgeon who specializes in pediatric surgerytraumaorthopaedics, or neurosurgery.

The healthcare teams meet each day for rounds, usually in the morning, to discuss each patient's care. We encourage your participation, as this group plans the medical care for each child. Visitors

At CCCH parents/primary care givers are not seen as visitors, but as integral members of the care team. Parents are welcome to stay with their child as long as they want and may come and go freely. If a parent is unable to stay with the child, another adult family member may stay with the child instead. A sleep chair and three meals per day are provided for one adult staying with the child.

Other family and friends may visit anytime. They must be at least 12-years-old and must be in good health. Family and friends may also visit parents in the family waiting room at any time. Please check with your child’s nurse if you have questions concerning visitation guidelines.
