Pathologists provide medical direction for small and large medical laboratories in both the acute and non-acute care settings. Their full spectrum of clinical laboratory medical direction includes expertise in the disciplines of clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology and parasitology, immunology and serology, blood banking, compliance, informatics, cytology and histology.
The American Board of Pathology certifies all pathologists in anatomic and clinical pathology. In addition, sub-specialty certifications in cytopathology, hematopathology, blood banking and transfusion medicine, dermatopathology and forensic pathology are held.
