Our View of Quality

When it comes to following a successful quality program, there are two major pillars that support it: data and culture.  At Carilion Clinic, we use an integrated electronic medical record system that allows us to understand how we're treating patients with similar diseases and assure them that we're providing the best possible care.  Our culture is one based upon teamwork.  We believe that all our employees have a role in assuring your health and making you better.  Each of our employees understands the value of working collaboratively with their peers and how teamwork improves patient care.

As part of our quality program, there are six major portfolios that allow us to operationalize the program across all of the hospitals and practices within the organization.

These portfolios include:

  • Accreditation
  • Safety
  • Performance Improvement
  • Resource Management
  • Clinical Informatics and Analytics
  • Health Services Research

While the first five components of the program are present in all of our Clinic sites, the research portfolio is currently focused in our Roanoke sites.
