Nurses Receive Special Designation in Gastroenterology

Several of Carilion Clinic’s registered nurses were recognized recently by the American Board of Certification for Gastroenterology Nurses (ABCGN), for their advanced proficiency in gastroenterology/endoscopy.

The nine nurses, part of Carilion Clinic’s Endoscopy Unit, were awarded designation of Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurse (CGRN) by the ABCGN, a non-profit certification board. Candidates of this special designation must have worked a specified number of hours in the field, obtained verification of professional qualification by practitioners, and passed a comprehensive examination.

The following nurses have received the special designation:

  • Jane Young, RN, B.S.N., C.G.R.N.
  • William Allison Burnette, R.N., C.G.R.N.
  • Carol Shaver, R.N., C.G.R.N.
  • Katie Poindexter, R.N., B.S.N., C.G.R.N.
  • Mary Anne Hodges, B.S., R.N., C.G.R.N.
  • Judy Murray, R.N., C.G.R.N.
  • Dianna Via, R.N., C.G.R.N.
  • Nancy Garrabrant, R.N., C.G.R.N
