New Physicians Join Carilion Clinic


Roanoke, VA - June 6, 2008

The information below is on the new physicians that have recently joined Carilion Clinic’s staff.

Wayne Brackenrich, D.O.

Wayne Brackenrich, D.O., has joined Carilion Clinic’s Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Brackenrich received his medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at the Doctor’s Hospital of Stark County. He is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Medicine.

J. Randolph Clements, D.P.M.

J. Randolph Clements, D.P.M., has joined Carilion Clinic’s Wound Care Clinic. Dr. Clements received his medical degree from Temple University and completed a podiatric surgical and medicine residency at John Peter Smith Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine.

Sandy L. Fogel, M.D.

Sandy L. Fogel, M.D., has joined Carilion Clinic’s Department of General Surgery. Dr. Fogel received his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Strong Memorial Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery.

Juleen Jandali-Qandah, D.O.

Juleen Jandali-Qandah, D.O., has joined Carilion Clinic’s Department of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Jandali-Qandah received her medical degree from Midwestern University, Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed an internal medicine residency at Maricopa County Medical Center and an emergency medicine residency at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.

Bush Kavuru, M.D.

Bush Kavuru, M.D., has joined Carilion Clinic’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. Dr. Kavuru received his medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He completed an internal medicine residency at the Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center and an adult psychiatry residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Kavuru is certified by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry.

Cassandra Mierisch, M.D.

Cassandra Mierisch, M.D., has joined Carilion Clinic’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Mierisch received her medical degree from the University of Calgary. She completed an orthopeadic residency at Queen’s University and a hand and microvascular surgery fellowship at the University of Washington.

Lisa A. Uherick, M.D.

Lisa A. Uherick, M.D., has joined Carilion Clinic’s Department of Emergency Medicine with a specialty in pediatric emergency medicine. Dr. Uherick received her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, where she also completed a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine. She completed her residency at the Carolinas Medical Center.

Roger P. Wiley, M.D.

Roger P. Wiley, M.D., has joined Carilion Clinic’s Department of Radiology with a specialty in neuroradiology. Dr. Wiley received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed a diagnostic radiology residency at the Presbyterian University Hospital. Dr. Wiley is certified by the American Board of Radiology.

Cynda A. Johnson, M.D., M.B.A.

Cynda A. Johnson, M.D., M.B.A., has joined Carilion Clinic as Dean of the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Dr. Johnson received her medical degree from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Medicine and her master’s degree from the University of Missouri. She completed a family practice residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and is certified by the American Board of Family Practice. Dr. Johnson completed a family practice fellowship with the University of Kansas School of Medicine and a faculty development fellowship with the University of North Carolina.

John L. Clements, D.P.M.

John L. Clements, D.P.M., has joined Carilion Clinic’s Wound Care Clinic. Dr. Clements received his medical degree from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. He completed his residency at the Veterans Administration Hospital.

Darla B. Hess, M.D.

Darla B. Hess, M.D., has joined Carilion Clinic’s Department of Cardiology. Dr. Hess received her medical degree from Tulane Medical School. She completed an internal medicine residency at the United States Naval Hospital and the Touro Infirmary Hospital. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Hugh Hemsley, M.D.

Hugh Hemsley, M.D., has joined Carilion Clinic’s Department of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Hensley received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School. He completed an emergency medicine residency at the Wright State University School of Medicine. Dr. Hemsley is certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Philip R. Albert, M.D.

Philip R. Albert, M.D., has joined Carilion Clinic’s Department of Radiology with a specialty in diagnostic radiology. Dr. Albert received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin. He completed residencies in urology and diagnostic radiology at Bethesda Naval Hospital and a fellowship in abdominal imaging at the University of Wisconsin.

Gregory W. Shawver, M.D.

Gregory W. Shawver, M.D., has joined Carilion Clinic’s Hospitalist program. Dr. Shawver received his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He completed a family practice residency at Lancaster General Hospital. Dr. Shawver is certified by the American Board of Family Practice.

Peyton Taliaferro, M.D.

Peyton Taliaferro, M.D., has joined Carilion Clinic’s Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Taliaferro received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He completed a family medicine residency at Saint Anthony’s Family Medicine Center. Dr. Taliaferro is certified by the American Board of Family Practice.

Andrea R. Cobb, M.D.

Andrea R. Cobb, M.D., has joined Carilion Clinic’s team of obstetricians and gynecologists. Dr. Cobb received her medical degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine. She completed her residency at the University of Kansas, Wesley Medical Center. Dr. Cobb is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
