Message from the Chair
Carilion Health System, now Carilion Clinic, has evolved from multiple community hospitals operating separately and locally to a unified tertiary care system delivering sophisticated subspecialty care regionally. The compassion, dedication and skill of the people who comprise the healthcare team ensure that our patients are our central focus. Change and growth have been enduring components of this transformation and have allowed us to achieve and sustain qualities of health care previously unimaginable.
As Carilion Clinic, our vision is to enhance the excellent care we have provided for decades. Integrating hospitals, physicians and technology, with common focus on patient care, we collaborate to answer in the affirmative each patient’s fundamental concern: “Will you take care of me”? We are committed to attaining the best possible outcomes for our patients through outstanding clinical practice, continuing medical education, and research and discovery.
In Radiology, as in other areas of Carilion Clinic, we have the opportunity to design, implement and lead a new model of imaging services based on the above concepts. We have recruited physicians of excellent character and integrity, with exceptional education, training, skills and current competence, who are attracted by our friendly collaborative environment. They are advocates for our patients, consultants for our radiology staff and clinical physicians, and ambassadors for radiology and Carilion Clinic.
Carilion Medical Center in Roanoke, the largest hospital in Carilion Clinic, is an 825 bed tertiary care, Level I trauma center serving a patient population of approximately one million in southwest Virginia. Imaging procedures at this facility exceed 300,000 annually.
The concepts of collaboration and teamwork across disciplines necessitate challenging our assumptions and being willing to modify our expectations. This dynamic process is reflected in the following:
- “We, not me”
- “Yes, instead of No”
- “Ours, not yours and mine”
- “I will, rather than I won’t"
