Jefferson College of Health Sciences Gets Approval to Offer Two New Graduate Degrees
Roanoke, VA - January 24, 2008
Jefferson College of Health Sciences (JCHS) has been granted approval to offer Master of Science degrees in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) and Physician Assistant (MSPA) by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Both programs will begin classes in fall 2008 and are now accepting applications from prospective students.
JCHS was given approval to begin offering graduate level courses in 2005 by SACS, moving the college from Carnegie Level II designation (authorized to offer bachelor’s degrees) to Carnegie Level III (authorized to offer master’s degrees). JCHS implemented the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program in 2005 and graduated the first class in May 2007.
With the approval of the MSOT and MSPA programs, JCHS now offers 18 degree programs in the health sciences, including associate, baccalaureate and master’s degrees.
JCHS is a private higher education institution that focuses on providing healthcare education and is fully integrated with Carilion Clinic. Founded in 1914 as the Jefferson Hospital School of Nursing, JCHS now offers its approximately 1,000 students many opportunities to become part of the healthcare profession, serving communities from southwest Virginia to the Shenandoah Valley and beyond. The school’s graduates are building healthier tomorrows for those in need every day across the country. More information is available at www.jchs.edu.
