General Pediatrics

Pediatric Care at Carilion Clinic in Virginia

The pediatric team at Carilion Clinic Children’s Hospital provides comprehensive primary care services to infants, children and adolescents in the Roanoke area.

Routine checkups are an important part of keeping children healthy. By maintaining a regular checkup and immunization schedule, we can help prevent illness, detect hidden problems and monitor growth and development throughout childhood and the teen years.

Our pediatricians commonly perform the following primary care services:

  • Well-child care (routine checkups)
  • Newborn care
  • Immunizations
  • Diagnosis and treatment of acute (sudden) illness or injury
  • Treatment of chronic and recurrent health conditions
  • Nurse advice line
  • Social services placement
  • Sport and camp physicals
  • ADHD clinic

We also direct patients and families to educational classes and arrange referrals to specialty services such as ENT (ear, nose and throat), ophthalmology, mental health and lactation support.

Patients are assigned to a specific pediatrician who gets to know the child and family through regular healthcare (checkups, immunizations, etc.). Primary care providers pay attention to how well children are doing medically, developmentally and socially. Our extended clinic staff includes registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and medical assistants. Several of our clinics also have medical students and residents, as we are a teaching hospital.
