About Carilion Clinic Hospice
There are, in every life, times that bring fond remembrance. A special kiss. The birth of a child. An honor richly deserved. And there’s no reason that life’s concluding days can’t be a positive part of this amazing journey.
Our team of physicians and caregivers will manage pain and symptoms, and help both the patient and family through the emotional challenges often present.
A pioneer in hospice care in Virginia, Carilion Clinic Hospice was founded in 1980. Just five years later, it became the 30th hospice in the nation to earn JC (Joint Commission) accreditation.
Today, Carilion Clinic Hospice is both Medicare and Medicaid certified and is affiliated with the National Hospice Organization and the Virginia Association for Hospices.

About Hospice Care
Hospice care as we know it is relatively new. Introduced in London in 1967, the concept gradually evolved, reaching across the ocean to the US.
During the 1980s, hospice care gained popularity as the demand for treatment in a supportive and dignified manner increased. Today, it is considered the standard of care for those with life-limiting illnesses or injuries.
